Windows 10 News: Buy Now, No Updates Needed Until 2025

In an effort to encourage consumers to become "early adopters" of the upcoming Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft has announced what it plans to do in terms of support for its new software. According to reports, the company is looking at a support scheme that provides "mainstream support" until the year 2020 and the "extended support" until 2025.

The company's extended support program will be available to those who upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10 within the first year that the new software is available. Extended support will essentially last until 10 years after, or until 2025. When it comes to updating, those who update within the year will avail of the Windows 10 update for free as well.

This is considered to be a "great deal" that consumers can take. Microsoft earlier announced that they are transforming the way they are earning with Windows 10, saying that Windows will be provided "as-a-service" wherein consumers will be getting updates as they are released so long as they are subscribed to receive these updates. This is in lieu of the usual practice of paying for updates as they come. According to the report, this would help Microsoft address the bugs and issues to software updates more efficiently.

Windows 10 also revealed how it will make the software available. The new software will no longer be available on optical discs like before. Instead, Windows 10 will be available on USB. So far, preorders are only available on Amazon. Each USB will cost $119.99 for Windows 10 Home and $199.99 for Windows 10 Pro.

The USB versions have not yet found their way on other online stores such as Best Buy or even the Microsoft store. Amazon also indicated a release date of August 30, which is quite far from the Windows 10 release date of July 29.

Many consumers are awaiting the release of Windows 10, touted to be "the biggest and the best Windows release to date," as well as promising to be better than the generally disappointing Windows 8 or 8.1.
