'Winds of Winter' Release Date News: George RR Martin Keeps Fans Hanging
No confirmation on when the sixth book will be published
With the fifth season of Game of Thrones finished, fans of both the HBO series and the book series A Song of Ice and Fire have been wondering when will George R.R. Martin release the sixth book, The Winds of Winter. It was last April when Martin posted a sneak-peek from the book on his official website. But since then, questions about the next book have been persistent.
However, in recent interviews, Martin has still not announced a definitive release date for The Winds of Winter. This is even after the latest season of GoT finished, and meant that it has caught up with his books.
In a science fiction convention, Martin was asked by Geekwire how he felt seeing that the HBO series is getting ahead of his writing.
He said that it does not matter if the TV series would be finished first and that there is no use worrying about it.
He said, "I still sit down at the typewriter, and I have to write the next scene and the next sentence … I'm just going to tell my story, and they're telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see."
Meanwhile, speculation about the events in the books and its ending have kept fans busy. One fan theory states that in the next book, the Wall may be destroyed by the White Walkers.
This is supported by News Every Day, where it is believed that the destruction of the Wall is the result of the chaos that ensued after Jon Snow's assassination. While there is no confirmation from Martin that this theory is valid, he did give hints about his plans for the series' ending.
He says he has not written it yet, but he wants an ending that is akin to The Lord of the Rings. "...[It's] no secret that Tolkien has been a huge influence on me, and I love the way he ended Lord of the Rings. It ends with victory, but it's a bittersweet victory."
