'Winter Is Coming' Is a Free 'Game of Thrones'-Based Card Game
"Game of Thrones" is back for its sixth season, satisfying fans of the medieval fantasy series who have been waiting patiently for any new content about the Westeros kingdom. Now, there is a card game that will satisfy even the most dedicated of "Game of Thrones" fans. According to a report in Tech Times, a free card game called "Winter is Coming" is now available for everyone.
The game was designed by Alex Kessler, who founded the start-up Kess. Kessler is a games and toys designer. On the game's website, Kessler called it "A Fan-made Game of Thrones-Themed Social Deduction Game" that is based on the book series "A Song of Fire and Ice" as well as the HBO series "Game of Thrones." Gameplay is patterned after card games such as "Werewolf" and "Mafia" except that it is set in the world of "Game of Thrones."
The objective of the game is pretty much straightforward – obliterate everyone else so that you can rule over the kingdom of Westeros. Those who want to play the game can head to the game's website and download the PDF. Cards need to be printed and cut.
The card game is ideal for big parties, where one can easily assemble eight players. One of the players need to play the host, who is the character Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King. The rest of the players get to play a secret persona who may be any character from the TV show or the book series.
There will be two alternating rounds, summer and winter, where player deaths are more likely to happen during the winter round. In the card game, players can strategize according to the cards they are holding during the summer round, and when the winter round comes, every player must close their eyes and wait until they are called to kill a character or two or be secretly informed by the one who plays the host that they have been killed.
If a player is a Targaryen, they can win only by outnumbering White Walkers and "living" players. If they are something else, they must kill all Targaryens.
