'Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus' Tips and Tricks Players Should Learn Before Starting the Game

Last week, Bethesda Softworks finally released the "Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus" game where protagonist BJ Blazkowicz is back to fight the Nazis' rule over America. Fortunately, players who are just about to start playing the game can now find various tips online that will give them an advantage over their enemies and will help them level up faster.

Several Ways to Access Missions

In a true anti-Nazi war fashion, "The New Colossus" is filled with missions and side quests. One way to access them is by interacting with other members of the Resistance, especially those who are part of Blazkowicz's and the Eva's Hammer's crews.

To know if a non-playable character will speak of a side quest, players can look for the speech bubbles in front of the crew members. These side quests vary from completing simple tasks to more complicated missions set in the open world.

Meanwhile, in the middle of the campaign, players should be able to unlock the enigma machine because this will be the apparatus used to decipher enigma codes that will be dropped every time the player kills a Nazi commander.

At the beginning, when the machine is not available yet, players can first collect the enigma codes and unlock them later once the decoder is ready to be used. These codes lead to "assassination missions" where Blazkowicz will have to kill high-level Nazi leaders.

PC Gamer added that players were not required to finish all the assassination missions to complete the campaign. These missions will still be playable even after the campaign has been finished.

Upgrading Weapons

As seen in earlier released gameplay walkthrough videos, "The New Colossus" is all about killing all kinds of enemies such as typical soldiers, Nazi commanders, and even Nazi robots. For a single-player game, upgrading weapons are immensely important.

However, unlike other shooter games, "The New Colossus" has a unique way of letting players upgrade their weapons and that is through kits that are scattered everywhere in the game. Most recently, they have not been handed to players even as rewards for completing missions or leveling up.

On the other hand, GameSpot advised players to prioritize the pistol suppressor since upgrading it made the weapon release more silent shots — a very good piece of equipment when going on stealth mode.

The report also considered the Sturmgewehr assault rifle as a worthy weapon to upgrade early on in the game because of its Marksman scope upgrade.

Fergus or Wyatt?

"Wolfenstein" is a game franchise with a heavy story, and in "The New Colossus," the plot intricately intersects with the gameplay aspect.

The start of the game will bring back a scene from "The New Order," where Blazkowicz needed to choose who to sacrifice between Fergus and Wyatt. In fact, the decision made here will affect the entire game.

According to GameSpot, the said decision will affect the type of crew members who Blazkowicz will encounter in the submarine Eva's Hammer. More importantly, the choice made will also affect its armory.

The report added that selecting Fergus will lead to having the Laserkraftwerk while saving Wyatt means getting the Dieselkraftwerk — two very different types of weapons.

The Laserkraftwerk fires electricity that can hit several targets at once, while the Dieselkraftwerk functions as a grenade launcher for explosives that can be detonated upon command.

"Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus" is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
