'Wolverine 3' Movie News: Boyd Holbrook to Play Movie's Main Antagonist

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will battle a new opponent in the upcoming "Wolverine 3" film as "Narcos" star Boyd Holbrook has been included in the cast of the movie to play the lead antagonist.

According to Deadline, the villain role that Holbrook will portray is someone who is relentless, calculating, and intense head of security for a global enterprise who is set against Wolverine. The news website also reported that the cameras may start grinding for the movie next month, with New Orleans and New Mexico as the movie's setting.

It is speculated that the third installment of "Wolverine" will be based on the popular "Old Man Logan" storyline in the comic book version of the character. If the movie is, indeed, using this storyline, moviegoers can expect an older version of Wolverine as the story in the said eight-issue comic book follows the saga of the X-Men character 50 years from the present times.

Apart from supposedly running on the "Old Man Logan" storyline, another speculation associated with "Wolverine 3" is that it will have an R rating. This means that it can have the freehand in showcasing more gory scenes.

"Wolverine 3" will run on a story penned by David James Kelly and will be directed by James Mangold. Last year, Jackman said that the third installment of "Wolverine" will be the last time for him to spring out his claws as the iconic X-Men character after spanning almost two decades of portraying Logan/Wolverine.

"It was a gut feeling… I don't know how many more egg white omelettes I can eat… come to think of it, eating those everyday would probably make us want to give up our mutant powers too," he said in an article on Entertainment Weekly that came out in June last year.

Apart from Jackman and Holbrook, "Wolverine 3" will also feature Patrick Stewart as he reprises his Charles Xavier character in the movie.

"Wolverine 2" raked in $414,828,246 as its global gross. Meanwhile, "Wolverine 3" is scheduled to hit the theaters on March 3, 2017.
