'Wolverine 3' Movie News: Movie's Story Will Be Set in the Future; Rumors It Will Be Based on 'Old Man Logan' Story Grow Louder

Although "Wolverine 3" is already set to hit the theaters next year, the team behind its development is still circumspect when releasing details on what the movie will be about. Apart from lead actor Hugh Jackman's earlier statement that it will be his last time to portray the X-Men character and that the movie will be directed anew by James Magold, other information about it has almost been scarce. However, according to Cinema Blend, the movie's producer Simon Kinberg himself made one important reveal about the movie: it will be set in the future. With this, speculations that the movie will be inspired by a comic book story "Old Man Logan" have even become louder.

"The Wolverine movie takes place in the future," said Kinberg.

With the wide timeline that various X-Men movie span---covering three decades in the latest movies---it can now be said that the upcoming Wolverine movie is following suit as it will be set in a time far beyond the present.

However, as future is a rather broad and confusing word, Kinberg's statement should not be interpreted as direct reference to the "Old Man Logan" version of Wolverine. However, in the event that the movie will be using the said comic book storyline, fans will finally see the X-Men character in a different light, specifically, appearance-wise as the story requires a much older version of the character as suggested by the title.

The plot of "Old Man Logan" takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where super villains have invaded the United States, and most of the major heroes have already been killed. While Logan, aka Wolverine, has vowed never to use his deadly claws again, he is faced with a situation that cancels off his earlier decision not to use his mutant powers once more.

It is also speculated that, if the movie will adapt the "Old Man Logan" story, it might just pave the way for killing off Wolverine to sync with Jackman's decision to say goodbye to the character after almost two decades of breathing life to it.

"It was a gut feeling. I don't know how many more egg white omelettes I can eat," Jackman said last year when he was asked why he was giving up his metal claws.
