'Wolverine 3' news, cast, spoilers: Could Tom Hardy be the next Wolverine?
The announcement of a "Wolverine 3" had somehow been a nice surprise to fans of the franchise all over the world, but then it quickly induced mixed feelings by the fact that along with this news came the confirmation from Hugh Jackman himself, who plays the metal-clawed X-Men favorite, that it will be his last take on the character.
Jackman has portrayed Wolverine for more than a decade now in countless of "X-Men" films, as well as the first two solo films, so it's truly saddening that he would be retiring his claws, especially now that it seems that the "X-Men" has further plans of making the franchise bigger.
Many think that if they do continue on having Wolverine, another actor would be cast. This is not a surprise as Marvel has been doing this a lot; however, it might be a bit trickier especially with such an established character. One of the ideal candidates to take on the challenge would more likely be Tom Hardy, who has been mentioned by Jackman himself in a recent press conference held for his latest film "Pan."
According to Screen Rant, Jackman took the chance to share his thoughts about portraying Wolverine one last time and who could be a possible successor for the role. He is quoted saying, "That's a great question. I haven't given it a lot of thought. I've been asked the question a lot and I'm always like 'I don't want to make it too easy on the studio to replace me.' I've still got one more to do. I'm sure they're already talking about it, that some actor out there they've already said 'shhhh… keep it quiet but we want you next.' He's younger than me for sure, I think Tom Hardy would be a great…"
After this suggestion was made, fans gave strong negative reactions, but many still seem to support the idea. However, for now, Jackman still has still two more years to go, with "Wolverine 3" starting production in the end of next year and the official release set on March 3, 2017.
