'Wolverine' Reboot With Younger Logan Actor Possible, FOX CEO Says
"Wolverine" could likely come back on the big screen with a younger actor playing the role of Logan/Wolverine. The CEO of FOX isn't shutting down a reboot following Hugh Jackman's retirement as the character.
FOX CEO Stacey Snider told Variety that anything is possible when she was asked about rebooting "Wolverine." While she did not elaborate on her statement, it is clear that the studio isn't closing the books on the superhero even as Jackman signed off.
"Wolverine" as a franchise remains popular among moviegoers, after all. The last film, "Logan," which was Jackman's swan song, became a box office and critical success. Fox had so much confidence in the said movie that it submitted a screener to the Oscars this week for consideration for Best Picture.
Jackman debuted as Wolverine/Logan in the very first live-action "X-Men" film in 2000. The Oscar-winner then played the role for at least eight more movies under 20th Century Fox.
"I think I'm pretty much danced out, and I had a great time," Jackman said when he announced his retirement as Wolverine/Logan. "It's been an unbelievable ride, but it feels right."
Meanwhile, "X-Men: First Class" director Matthew Vaughn revealed that he had an idea about doing a film on the character with a younger actor back in 2011. The studio at that time, however, said no.
Wolverine/Logan originally appeared in "The Incredible Hulk" Marvel Comics series in 1974. His character was framed as an anti-hero who rose to become a fan favorite.
Roy Thomas, Len Wein and John Romita, Sr. created Wolverine/Logan as a bio-engineered government experiment. His superpowers include heightened animal-like senses and reflexes, regenerative healing ability, retractable claw bones and an Adamantium-plated skeleton. His superpowers made him hard to kill, hence Wolverine seemingly appeared to have an immortal life.
