'Wonder Woman 2' Release Date, Plot Rumors: Filming Begins 2018; Gal Gadot Admits Discrepancy in Past Wonder Woman Portrayal

Following the massive success of this year's "Wonder Woman" film, starring actress Gal Gadot, it has been announced that the production for the highly anticipated sequel is starting next year.

According to Comic Book Resources, filming will begin in June 2018. Still directed by Patty Jenkins, "Wonder Woman 2" is set to follow Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman's adventure after the events of World War I and into the 1980s Cold War.

Also, despite the fact that Chris Pine's character Steve Trevor, who played the love interest of the female superhero, had already died in the first film, the director has reportedly tapped the actor to return for the sequel. It is unclear as of now if there is going to be some sort of resurrection, or if he will be present only in flashbacks, or if he will be playing someone who looks exactly like the first character. There are many speculations.

In other news, Gadot admitted that there were discrepancies on how Wonder Woman was portrayed in the 2016 "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" film and the 2017 solo movie titled "Wonder Woman."

According to her, the stories do not line up. "None of us knew exactly, exactly, what's the backstory of Wonder Woman," the actress said during a press conference, referring to the earlier film, where Wonder Woman had seemingly abandoned humanity.

She added, "And once they decided to shoot the solo movie for Wonder Woman and we started to dig in to understand the core of this character, we realized that, actually, there is no way that Wonder Woman would ever give up on mankind."

Gadot also reminded the press that the reason the Amazonian superhero left the island of Themyscira was that she wanted humanity to have safer and better lives as it was her calling.

"Wonder Woman 2" is scheduled to open in cinemas on Dec.13, 2019.
