'Wonder Woman' Movie News: 'Wonder Woman' Retreats from Battle with 'Transformers,' to Face 'Bad Boys' and 'Captain Underpants' Instead

Moviegoers will no longer witness a royal battle—at the box-office, at least—as Warner Bros. moved the showing date of "Wonder Woman" to June 2, 2017 from its originally slated showing date of June 23, 2017. With this move, "Wonder Woman" will no longer go heads on with Paramount's "Transformers 5," which maintains its June 23, 2017 schedule.

Although Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman" was booked years earlier for the June 23, 2017 showing date, fans of the Amazon warrior princess felt bothered when Paramount announced early this year that its upcoming "Transformers 5" would share the same showing date with that of the Warner Bros. and DC movie.

Many felt that the move of Paramount would take a toll on the box-office performance of "Wonder Woman," believing that the first-ever big screen incarnation of the DC female superhero is yet to prove its worth at the tills. On the other hand, the "Transformers" franchise has already made Paramount billions of dollars richer. Hence, fans and experts alike suggested that "Wonder Woman's" showing date be moved, with some even believing a Mother's Day showing date would be a good choice as it would honor mothers around the world for being a "wonder woman" in their own way.

Apart from "Wonder Woman," Warner Bros. also moved the showing date of its "Jungle Book: Origins." However, unlike "Wonder Woman," whose showing date has been moved earlier, "Jungle Book: Origins" has been pushed backwards. Instead of having an Oct. 6, 2017 showing date, it will now head to the theaters a year later, October 19, 2018. Some experts opine that the move could be Warner Bros.' way to set a distinction for its interpretation of the story from that of Disney's version, which, incidentally, is hitting the theaters next week.

With "Wonder Woman's" new showing date, it will now take on less powerful competitors at the box-office, such as "Bad Boys 3" and "Captain Underpants," and many can only bet that "Wonder Woman" will easily emerge victorious in this battle.
