'Wonder Woman' News: Chris Pine May Play Her Love Interest
As fans are eagerly anticipating the appearance of Wonder Woman in "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice" and in her own solo movie "Wonder Woman," not much is known about the movie's plot or storyline. The only recent news about the movie is the change in who is directing it.
Now, a report in Variety says that actor Chris Pine is being eyed to join the lead cast in the "Wonder Woman" film. While Gal Gadot plays the role of the lead superhero, Pine is rumored to be playing the role of Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman's love interest in the movie. Pine is known for his starring roles in the "Star Trek" remake movies, as Captain Kirk. This will be his first venture into the DC cinematic universe.
The film is being directed by Patty Jenkins, who replaced Michelle Maclaren, with a script by Jason Fuchs. It is set to be released in 2017. Charles Roven is executive producer for Atlas Entertainment, while Zack Snyder, who also directed "Batman v Superman" is also a producer.
According to the DC comics storyline, Steve Trevor is an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. His plane crashed on Paradise Island which was the homeland of the Amazons. The Amazon princess, Diana, took care of him and nursed him back to health. Diana also fell in love with him and decided to follow him when he returned to his world. She became Wonder Woman, disguised as Diana Prince who also became Trevor's co-worker.
Earlier reports were saying that Scott Eastwood was being considered for the role. But as it turned out, according to insider sources, Eastwood was given the choice of testing for the role in "Wonder Woman" or getting a sure supporting part in the "Suicide Squad." He apparently chose to be part of "Suicide Squad."
Pine on the other hand, was reportedly sought out by the studio, thus leading to the negotiations. Warner Brothers has yet to confirm the news.
