Worst Twerk Fail Video a Hoax at the Hands of Jimmy Kimmel
It appears that Jimmy Kimmel was the prankster responsible for tricking many viral video frequenters, as yesterday's popular "Worst Twerk Fail Ever – Girl Catches Fire" video was a hoax the late night comedian created.
Before it was revealed as a hoax, the video was a viral hit, racking up more then 9 million views on YouTube and being rebroadcast on many news outlets. The video featured a girl named "Caitlin" attempting to twerk and having her pants catch on fire.
It was revealed last night on Kimmel's show "Late Night With Jimmy Kimmel" that the video was a hoax.
"To the conspiracy theorists who thought the video was fake, you were right, it was fake," Kimmel said on his show.
He then jokingly added "I'm also the guy who bit Charlie's finger by the way," referencing the popular "Charlie Bit Me" viral video of 2008 in which a small boy bites his brother.
Kimmel explained how he made the video and didn't promote it, but rather just let it spread virally through the internet.
"We shot the video two months ago. We didn't send it to any TV stations, I didn't tweet it. We didn't put it on any news web sites. We just put it on YouTube and let the magic happen. And the magic happened," the comedian said.
The young woman who caught on fire was in the studio at the time of Kimmel's show. She at first pretended to be coming in via satellite, but it was soon revealed that she was in the Hollywood studio. Her real name is Daphne Avalon, and she is a professional stuntwoman.
