WWE 2016 Rumors: Roman Reigns; Seth Rollins Double Turn Planned?
Roman Reigns—just say his name in front of a crowd of hardcore WWE fans and boos will surely be all over the place. Reigns had been consistently rejected by the WWE Universe ever since he broke off from the Shield stable and began his solo career. And he is not even a heel; in fact, he is being built up as the opposite of one.
But Reigns' babyface run as Vince McMahon's favorite guy had been the biggest reason for his hated stature. He was being pushed without necessarily "earning" it, unlike Daniel Bryan, for example. However, it looks like there have been plans to undo the wrong and put Reigns in his rightful place.
Heel turn?
It is no secret that the WWE Universe would love to see Roman Reigns as a heel, if not the top heel of the company. They have always booed him even if he faces other heels like Triple H, only if he himself turns into the bad guy, it would be warranted.
Rumors earlier this year suggest the McMahon patriarch may have come to his senses and lost faith in his plan, after trying to so hard to get Reigns over. The pivotal event was Reigns' Wellness Policy violation, which got him a 30-day suspension.
Thus, recent NXT call-up Finn Balor was pegged to take Reigns' spot as the company's babyface. Balor would still win the Universal Champuonship at SummerSlam, then Rollins get the title from him prior to Survivor Series. At the PPV, Triple H would help Rollins in some way and a double turn would happen—Rollins turns face, Reigns turns heel.
Cancelled plans
However, Balor got injured and Owens took his place as the champ, after getting help from Triple H. The latter still double-crossed Rollins and established Owens as top heel, while Rollins is still in the process of a face turn. Meanwhile, the foiled plan renders Reign's bad guy turn unlikely in the near future, with the company reportedly still high on him as the next John Cena.
Reigns currently holds the United States title after defeating Rusev at Clash of Champions, while Rollins chases the Universal title on Owen's waist. When his feud with Triple H finally begins is still up in the air, as Hunter has yet to return to Raw after handing the belt to Owens.
