WWE Extreme Rules Results: Did Evolution Separate the Shield?

WWE's "Extreme Rules" 2014 had plenty of action and excitement for fans wanting to see their favorite superstars duke it out in a no-holds-barred evening. One of the highlights of the evening was the clash between the old-school Evolution and new-school Shield. Who came out on top? Read on to find out.

In the first match of the evening, Rob Van Dam took on former tag-team partners Jack Swagger and Cesaro. Once Van Dam eliminated Swagger, he turned his full attention to the "King of Swing," Cesaro. After a few high-risk maneuvers, Cesaro was able to take advantage of Van Dam's mistake and get the win.

Bad News Barrett then took on Big E. Langston for the Intercontinental Championship. Barrett had to go through several matches before getting his chance at the title, and he made the most of the match against Langston. In the end, he was able to get the win and earn the Intercontinental Championship.

Finally, the match fans had longed for was ready to take place. Members of Evolution Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista entered the ring, eager to take on members of the Shield-- Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. The Shield held the ring during the first six-man interaction, showing their dominance and defiance. Yet after several battles, the fight spilled outside the ring and into the crowds. Finally, Reigns was able to deliver the spear and win the fight for the Shield, while the other four men involved lay scattered throughout the arena.

John Cena and Bray Wyatt squared off in a legendary cage match of good versus evil. While it looked as though Cena was going to win the match several times and nearly won at one point, the lights went out and an altered voice began singing "He's Got the Whole World" in his hands. When the lights came back on, a small boy was singing the song right to John Cena as he stood in the doorway of the cage. A clearly stunned Cena could do nothing but look on; Wyatt seized the opportunity to deliver "Sister Abigail" to Cena and win the match, leaving Cena completely stunned and haunted.

Daniel Bryan took on the "Devil's Favorite Demon" Kane for the WWE titles. Bryan wasted no time and attacked Kane from the moment he entered the arena. The two men went at each other with everything they had: kendo sticks, chairs, and steps before moving behind-the-scenes and continuing to destroy one another. Once out in the parking lot, Bryan was able to grab a snow shovel and get in a few beatings before laying Kane out on a parked car and pummeling him.

However, Kane then put Bryan on top of the car and reached for a fire extinguisher, which he sent through the windshield. Bryan found a crow bar, repeatedly hit Kane, knocking him unconscious, then put him on the flat of a lift and drove him out to the ring, where he then lowered Kane into the ring and went flying to cover Kane. Bryan was only able to get a two-count on Kane. As he waited to perform his finishing maneuver, Kane sat up, caught Bryan in a choke-slam and pinned him for a two-count.

Finally, Kane caught Bryan as he attempted to fly through the ropes and delivered a choke-slam through the announcers' table. Kane then set up a table from underneath the ring and poured gasoline on the table as Bryan lay helpless in the ring. The "Devil's favorite demon" then set the table on fire and as he went to grab Bryan, Bryan was able to use the ropes to his advantage, sending Kane through the fiery table; a security guard quickly put out the fire and Bryan delivered a kick to the face and got the win, securing his title for at least a little longer.
