WWE Latest News: Freddie Prize Jr. Walks Through WWE's Process Of Storyline Writing; Sting Eyes Return Despite Medical Condition
Actor and martial artist Freddie Prinze Jr. recently revealed some details behind the writing of the World Wrestling Entertainment's storylines.
Prinze was a former writer for the WWE, which began in the late 2000s. In his tell-all interview with GQ, he explains how someone working for the company approached him while he was attending a WrestleMania event, asking what he thought of the show.
He did oblige with his own answers, and from the said conversation, Prinze was then invited for a meeting with Stephanie McMahon, who in turn, loved the ideas he presented.
According to Prinze, the process of writing a storyline for a specific wrestler is a long, winding one.
Like in every story writing situation, it all begins from various pitches from writers, which could either be accepted or declined, and declined "really hard", as he explains.
Once the pitch is approved, the team will then develop the rest, from the rivalries, to the trash talking, and how the said wrestler would make his way up the ladder, until finally getting a title shot.
Prinze's job back then was to develop the segments involving the wrestlers, including their dialogue.
"Not everyone would do that, but I would really try to paint a full picture because what I was pitching was weird stuff, even for wrestling," he said.
Meanwhile, newly inducted WWE Hall-of-Famer Sting is still thinking of coming back into the ring, despite his physical condition. The 57-year old professional wrestler was diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis, deeming his wrestling career to be over.
But if it were up to him, Sting says he would want one last WrestleMania appearance, supposedly for the upcoming WrestleMania 32 event on April 3rd.
"If I had my way, yes, of course," Sting said in an interview with WWE.com. "I would have loved to have done one more WrestleMania and I would have called it quits at that point."
"The Undertaker match—that's what I wanted to do."
Sting did comply with his doctors' orders of not wrestling again. But apparently, it is not something that is set in stone.
"I have to say it: The only thing for sure about Sting is nothing's for sure," he said.
