WWE Latest News: UFC On The Lookout For Opponents For CM Punk
The UFC is already scouring for an opponent for former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar CM Punk, as the ex-pro wrestler turned mixed martial arts fighter makes his still-undated Octagon debut.
Punk (Phil Brooks in real life) made the announcement of being a part of the UFC roster in December 2014, during the pay-per-view broadcast of the UFC 181 event, headlined by welterweights Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks.
The 37-year old athlete, who is still best known for being a decorated sports entertainment personality, was supposedly scheduled to make his UFC debut at the end of this year. However, he was forced to postpone it, after suffering a shoulder injury in camp in October.
According to Punk's trainer, Duke Roufus, he is expecting his fighter to finally make an appearance after six months of healing, rehabilitation, and training.
"He's about at 50 percent," Roufus said in an early October with ESPN. "But that being said, remember that my 100 percent is a very well-prepared person."
Roufus is a trainer of some of the best world champions in the game, namely former UFC 155-pound title-holder Anthony "Showtime" Pettis and ONE Championship welterweight king Ben Askren, among others.
Recently, UFC president Dana White himself spoke about the CM Punk situation. In a report by Cageside Seats of White's interview with Michael Landsberg of "Off the Record", the brash company executive says he is not expecting Punk to make his debut soon.
"It's the first time this guy has ever trained to fight," White explained. "The guy has never wrestled. He's professional wrestled but he's never wrestled. He will fight next year, 100-percent."
The UFC president adds that he is actually in search for Punk's new opponent through the new UFC Fight Pass show titled "Looking for a Fight", alongside former welterweight champion Matt Serra, and childhood friend Nick "The Tooth" Gullo.
It is on the same show where the trio discovered fast-rising lightweight prospect Sage Northcutt.
