WWE Rumors 2017: Will Goldberg Take the Belt Away from Owens?

Now that Elimination Chamber 2017 is over, it's time to focus on the next pay-per-view (PPV) event before WrestleMania 33.

Kevin Owens will have to defend the WWE Universal Championship against Bill Goldberg at Fastlane 2017, and many did not see it coming. Owens did not really accept Goldberg's challenge, but his pal, Chris Jericho did it on his behalf. Will Owens become Goldberg's next victim?

Goldberg may have bulldozed through everyone he has faced since his return, but Bleacher Report's Ryan Dilbert believes that Owens may actually win the fight. He pointed out that the World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (WWE) is making a huge mistake if they continue to promote Goldberg at the expense of Owens.

He noted that Owens is a young budding star while Goldberg is already 50, and letting the older star win may be a little shortsighted.

"Goldberg excites casual and lapsed fans. He brings eyes to the product. He will make WrestleMania 33 bigger. But he can do all that without making a potential cornerstone of the New Era look inferior. He can do all that as a limping, bruised warrior who fell victim to Owens while Lesnar laughs at him in the distance," Dilbert said.

However, several sources believe that there's no stopping Goldberg and many believe the veteran wrestler will hold the WWE Universal Championship belt heading into his WrestleMania 33 match with Brock Lesnar. It is said that Vince McMahon wants a title on the line for the main event at Wrestlemania 33, that's why Goldberg is going to defeat Owens in Fastlane.

Daniel DeMarco of FanRag Sports also believes that Goldberg will take the belt away from Owens, and he thinks Lesnar is going to win it at Wrestlemania 33.

"Plans may have been extended past Survivor Series, but the end goal was always for Lesnar to ultimately get that win back over Goldberg," he said.

Fastlane will take place on Sunday, March 5, at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Fans can watch it on the WWE Network.
