WWE Wrestler Sting Announces Retirement at Hall of Fame Ceremony
WWE legendary wrestler Sting is taking a rest from the world of wrestling as he has officially announced his retirement. According to a report by Yahoo! Sports, the New World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Famer revealed his in-ring announcement during his induction speech at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Saturday, April 2.
"You've heard me say it before, you've heard me say it for years that the only thing that is for sure about Sting is nothing is for sure until now," Sting said to an audience filled with family, friends and co-professional wrestlers.
"On this very night, at this very moment, I'm going to finish my wrestling career under the WWE umbrella and I am so proud of that. I am officially going to retire tonight," he said as the crowd cheered and clapped their hands for him.
But even though he will no longer be at the wrestling scene, Sting, whose real name is Steven Borden, did not say his goodbye. Instead, he told everybody that it "isn't goodbye, it's just see you later." Sting closed his speech on stage by picking up his signature baseball bat and donning on his sunglasses before walking off stage.
As detailed in Miami Herald, Sting denied retirement reports in the media the day before he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2016. He also even said that he wanted to go head to head with The Undertaker. It turns out that his denial of the reports was a just cover-up for him to be able to make break the news himself.
During his speech, he recalled his days when he was just starting in the industry including his time in the now extinct World Championship Wrestling where he became the company's franchise player. He also mentioned wrestling in a WWE ring at Wrestlemania 31 the previous year. Inquisitr noted that Sting's greatest moment as a performer happened during his match with Ric Flair at 1988's Clash of the Champions.
