'X-Men: Apocalypse' news, cast, spoilers: Apocalypse will be more than just a villain
The third installment of the "X-Men First Class," "Apocalypse," has definitely a lot of expectations to meet. With the last two movies getting strong support, the pressure is definitely on to exceed both. Bryan Singer has taken charge of the latest film and he is dedicated in making it his strongest X-Men film to date.
One of the strongest elements of the upcoming film would be the introduction of one of the strongest villains the X-Men have taken on, En Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse, hence the film's official title. Apocalypse is taking the idea of a "big bad" to a whole new level. He is an ancient deity that has been asleep for thousands of years and awakens only to find out that the world no longer goes the way he wants it to. The actor taking on the role of Apocalypse is Oscar Isaac, likening the new villain as God-like.
Michael Dougherty, the film's screenwriter, recently spoke with IGN and gave his own description of the much-awaited antagonist. He states, "The idea that he sort of comes from a world where things might have been reversed, where mutants weren't a persecuted minority, that there was a period where they were considered supernatural deities, it's a fascinating premise. And what happens when that character, in sort of a Rip Van Winkle fashion, enters our world… it made that character not just a big guy hellbent on world domination, but it gave him a heart that I think we can all relate to."

This would be sort of a deviation from the source material, as Apocalypse has always been present to be motivated by the idea of "survival of the fittest." In the movie, it would seem like he is driven by a bigger goal, bigger than just the idea of being a mutant. Apocalypse is ranked as one of the top 50 comic villains of all time, and so there would be lots of room for the movie to explore the length of what his character can do. This will also help Apocalypse to not fall into the usual villain stereotype.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
