'X-Men: Apocalypse' Release Date 2016: Bryan Singer Facing Legal Trouble

20th Century Fox is now signing up their actos for long term contracts in preparation for the upcoming sequels of the "X-Men: Days of Future Past" film. The next one on the list will be the film "X-Men: Apocalypse" set for a May 27, 2016 release.

The premiere of the X-Men sequel will also occupy the same Memorial Day slot that the previous film earlier this year. The Marvel film will also be contending with a supposed Disney release, "Alice in Wonderland 2." The contention also mirrors that of the Days of Future Past's premiere alongside Disney's "Maleficent."

However, Singer is currently facing a sexual abuse case that was filed against him by Michael Egan. Although Singer is motioning for a lack of jurisdiction, he is still in danger of losing his hold as director for the sequel. Until then however, he is still in charge of directing "X-Men: Apocalypse."

For the previous X-Men titles, Magneto has always been perpetual enemy of the X-Men, and then with "Days of Future Past," Bolivar Trask became the enemy along with his technological creations, the Sentinels. For the sequel, the mutants will now be facing against Apocalypse, as the title suggests.

Apocalypse was first shown during the "Days of Future Past" after-credits clip in which he was using his powers to lift the Great Pyramids. This indicates that he has been around on Earth for a long time and at one point he was revered as a god.

Apocalypse's given name, En Sabah Nur, translates into "The First One," suggesting that he was the first mutant to ever exist. He is born with grey skin and blue traces around his mouth running up to the back of his ears.

The powers that he possesses are numerous and includes flight, superhuman strength, teleportation, telekinesis, invulnerability, and a whole lot more. Basically speaking, Apocalypse is nearly indestructible and is difficult to fight against. Moreover, he created the four Horsement of Apocalypse – War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death.

It is unclear on how much of Apocalypse's past and backstory will be shown in the film as there are numerous versions in the comics. Fans of the comics and the film franchises will have to wait until 2016 to find out.
