'X-Men: Apocalypse' Spoilers: Olivia Munn Shows Glimpse Of Psylocke; Trailer Reveals Dark Phoenix?
Olivia Munn welcomed 2016 by going over her favorite memories from the past year, one of which is playing the Marvel Comics character for the upcoming film "X-Men: Apocalypse." The 35-year-old actress posted a photo of herself in full Psylocke gear on Instagram, with the caption: "To say hello to 2016, I'm gonna say GOODBYE TO 2015 with my Top 5 Favorite Memories of 2015 (that I can think of)... #4 Getting to play #Psylocke in #xmenapocalypse."
The "Mortdecai" actress described her character, Psylocke, saying, "She's a telekinetic telepath who chooses to kill with a sword because she wants to do it up close and intimate because killing from afar just seems too easy and no fun."
Elizabeth Braddock/Psylocke will be one of the Four Horsemen of the "X-Men: Apocalypse" main villain En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), along with Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Ororo Munroe/Storm (Alexandra Shipp), and Warren Worthington III/Archangel (Ben Hardy).
The film also stars James McAvoy (Charles Xavier/Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Raven Darkhölme/Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Hank McCoy/Beast), Tye Sheridan (Scott Summers/Cyclops), Lucas Till (Alex Summers/Havok), Evan Peters (Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler), Lana Condor (Jubilation Lee/Jubilee), Josh Helman (William Stryker), and Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert). Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in HBO's "Game of Thrones," will play the role of Jean Gray.
Turner takes over the role of a young Jean Gray from Haley Ramm, who played the character in "X-Men: The Last Stand." According to ComicBook.com, a scene from the 'X-Men: Apocalypse" trailer, in which Jean Gray enters Professor X's Cerebro chamber, could indicate that Marvel may soon adapt "The Dark Phoenix Saga," the X-Men story in which Jean Gray becomes possessed by a strong cosmic power.
"That's actually Jean," director Bryan Singer told Empire magazine about the scene. "Her hair makes her a little strange looking! But I don't want to explain why she's doing what she's doing … " Singer said.
ComicBook.com suggests that Jean is entering the Cerebro chamber because Charles Xavier has been defeated by Apocalypse and Jean is the only mutant left who has the power to use Cerebro. But Cerebro will unlock the Phoenix within her, leaving the door wide open for the Jean Gray alter ego to reappear in future X-Men films.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is scheduled to hit North American cinemas, in 3D and 2D, on May 27.
