'X-Men: Apocalypse' to Bring in Old-Fashioned Special Effects (VIDEO)
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is reportedly bringing back old fashioned special effects in an era where most movies rely on computers and CGI.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" director Bryan Singer recently released an Instagram video showing a clip from the set of the upcoming movie utilizing old fashioned special effects.
Based on the glimpse of the work-behind-the-scenes, the latest film in the X-Men universe will be employing practical effects instead of relying on the current standby of computer-based animation and imagery and CGI.
Showing a massive "motion base" built to shake up a set, the video gives audiences an idea of what to expect as the actors on the set gear up for multiple takes of a bumpy ride in a particular film sequence.
The "motion base" may have something to do with a mutant's display of special abilities, with the first guess involving Storm's weather manipulating powers, triggering a weather phenomenon which may cause a room or building to shake.
The teenage version of Storm will be played by Alexandra Shipp, who is rumored to be sporting Storm's iconic mohawk hair style, as seen in the comic books.
The stop-motion set is likely to be the small tip of a bigger iceberg of special effects and visuals planned for "X-Men Apocalypse." Given the sizeable cast of actors, audiences may expect a greater number of superpowers displayed on the big screen.
Apart from Magneto's metal control and Mystique's shapeshifting abilities, Cyclops will be present in his younger version to deliver optic blasts, Nightcrawler with his teleporting powers, and Jubilee throwing her energy plasmoids.
With both digital and practical special effects on hand, fans of the franchise may expect a combination of both when the X-Men battle Apocalypse. The live-action sequence has earlier been reported to include a very physical battle with Oscar Isaac, who plays titular villain Apocalypse, with robotic technology thrown in, making the film resemble its comic book version as closely as possible.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is scheduled for North American theatrical release on May 27, 2016.
