'X-Men: Apocalypse' to feature villain the Blob?
As if "X-Men: Apocalypse" isn't jam-packed yet with villains, there are reports that another one is set to appear in the upcoming superhero flick. According to Cinema Blend, the X-Men will have to contend with more than Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), a young Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Angel (Ben Hardy) and Psylocke (Olivia Munn). They will be joined by Fred Dukes who is also known as "the Blob."
The news about the Blob joining the roster of villains started from an Instagram user named Benjamin Malartre Bureau. He shared in his account a photo which indicates that Blob will be part of the upcoming movie, reported Business Standard.
In the picture, a keychain souvenir with the word "Apocalypse" can be seen along with a caption that claimed he (Bureau) was on the movie set with several cast members like Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult. He also said that the actor playing the Blob was among them although he did not name the actor. According to his replies, the Blob will be portrayed in the movie by a 540-pound French-Canadian guy or as Ben puts it, "one solid big fat guy!"
To those who are not familiar with the big villain, Fred "the Blob" Dukes is a carnival performer after being led to believe that he is a freak following the manifestations of his mutant nature. Charles Xavier sent his X-Men to invite him to join the team but he refused to join them, believing himself to be superior over them. He even tried attacking the X-Men but failed to do so. He was later offered a chance by Magneto to join his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants to which he agreed.
The humongous mutant was first seen in Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." In order to look like the character shown in the comic books, actor Kevin Durand donned a fat suit to portray the Blob.
There are still no clues as to what part the Blob will play in the movie's storyline. "X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to be shown in US theaters on May 27, 2016.
