'X-Men: Apocalypse' Movie Cast News: Jennifer Lawrence's Last Role as A Young Mystique

Jennifer Lawrence will be ending her "X-Men" days when the upcoming "X-Men Apocalypse" hits theaters in 2016.

"The Hunger Games" bow-and-arrow-wielding heroine, Jennifer Lawrence, who has played Mystique in two "X-Men" films since 2011, is setting aside the blue body paint after "X-Men: Apocalypse" in May 2016.

The 24-year-old Academy Award winner ("Silver Linings Playbook") has played a younger version of Mystique in the Marvel superhero prequels alongside James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.

Lawrence's decision to step away from the franchise may have come at the right time. The upcoming "Apocalypse" will be introducing a new cast of characters, including younger versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm, and with Raven Darkholme saving President Nixon in the previous film, Mystique's absence from "Apocalypse" may help not to muddy the waters for audiences taking in a whole new cast.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will see the returning cast of James McAvoy as Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert and Nicholas Hoult as Beast. New mutants will be introduced, including Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops.

Lawrence is also doing her final turn as Katniss in the last installation of the "Hunger Games" which premieres on Nov. 20 this year.

Securing her freedom from two major movie franchises will open up the actress' schedule for further movie projects. She is currently starring in the titular movie role, "Joy," a biographical dramedy with Robert De Niro, and "Silver Linings Playbook" and "American Hustle" co-star Bradley Cooper.

Lawrence was earlier recognized as the highest-grossing female action hero in the 2015 Guinness Book of World Records for her role as Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games" movie franchise, which has so far grossed $2.3 billion at the box office.
