Xbox Executive Backs Exclusive Games Lineup
After sharing her views regarding the outlook for single-player games a few weeks ago, the same Xbox executive has reiterated her confidence in their gaming lineup through next year — including their exclusive titles.
In an interview with Gamespot, Xbox Publishing head Shannon Loftis said they are looking to have more exclusive titles soon. "I think our offering is good and it is solid. I definitely hear that gamers want more," said Loftis. "Would we love to have two-dozen more super-strong, absolutely exclusives? You bet," she added.
She confirmed that they already have more games in the pipeline, some of which are already "in the works that we're not talking about now." As for the Xbox One X launching, Loftis feels good about what they have in store for the gamers.
Gamespot noted some of Xbox's exclusive titles that have already been released. These include "Super Lucky's Tale," "Cuphead," and "Forza Motorsport 7." As for Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere system, Loftis said that games listed under the system but are also appearing in other platforms like the PC is not necessarily detrimental.
"I may be out in left field but I do not see how offering games on more platforms to more gamers is a bad thing necessarily, particularly in a multiplayer scenario," Loftis explained.
Last month, Loftis also shared her thoughts on single-player games, noting that the genre is not yet dead, though it faces tough challenges affecting its economic viability. "Game development in general is about a couple of things. It's about delivering and experience and it's about telling stories," Loftis explained. "Storytelling is as central to game development as it ever has been," she went on to say.
She said that there are single-player games that are still making big in the market like "Fallout 4" and "Horizon Zero Dawn." She pointed out, however, that creating such compelling games require a much bigger budget in the development process.
She said that there are gamers who are specifically looking for titles that offer higher resolution and higher fidelity, which both require more funding to produce. In addition, Xbox already made room for such games in the Xbox One X by enhancing select Xbox 360 and Xbox One games.
