Xbox Games With Gold April 2017 Free Games: Mix of Ancient Wars, Zombie Titles
With barely a week left before this month ends, Microsoft has already revealed the list of Xbox Live's Games With Gold free games for April 2017, and it is a good mix of ancient war heroes, assassins and zombies.
The games that players can access for free within the next month are "Ryse: Son of Rome," "The Walking Dead: Season 2," "Darksiders," and "Assassin's Creed: Revelations."
It is important to note, though, that these games can only be accessed for free by players who are subscribed to Xbox Live's Games With Gold platform. A subscription costs $9.99 per month, $24.99 for a package of three months, or $59.99 for an entire year. New subscribers can get a one-month free trial and are also eligible to play the free games.
Xbox 360 Free Games
From April 1 to 15, the action role-playing game "Darksiders" will be up for free. The game was developed by Vigil Games and published by THQ back in January 2010. Gamers will have to play using a third-person perspective as they control the protagonist named War. Gameplay mainly includes going through combat and explorations, and completing puzzles as well.
From April 16 to 30, Xbox 360 players can start enjoying the "Assassin's Creed: Revelations" for free. This action-adventure game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and was originally released in late 2011. Players will come across the franchise's familiar open world setting. This title also introduced a new gameplay feature at the time of its release as it allowed players to kill enemies or go across town through ziplining with Ezio's - the protagonist - hookblade.
Luckily, these games have both been included in Xbox's Backward Compatibility program which means Xbox One players can also access them at the given dates.
Xbox One Free Games
Added to the two mentioned games, two more titles are also up for free, dedicated to Xbox One players.
For the entire month of April, Xbox One players can relive the ancient wars of Rome for free by playing the "Ryse: Son of Rome." This 2013 release is known for its hack and slash gameplay using a third-person perspective. Players will have to control the Roman general, Marius Titus, as he aims to avenge his family's death across an alternate representation of Rome.
Lastly, from April 16 to May 15, Xbox One players will also have the option to battle zombies as the interactive drama adventure game "The Walking Dead: Season Two" goes live for free on the mentioned dates. Players will control the game's protagonist, Clementine, across the game environment where a lot of interactions - even with non-playable characters - can also happen.
Meanwhile, until the calendar shifts to April, Xbox players can still access the horror game "Layers of Fear" and "Heavy Weapon" until the end of March, and "Evolve Ultimate Edition" until April 15 at no cost.
