Xbox One SDK Hacking News: Could Allow Developers To Create Their Own Xbox Games

Microsoft found itself in a dilemma as it faced a cyber attack by hacker group H4LT, which illegally accessed its Xbox One SDK or software development kit and got a hold of confidential information.

The group posted a link of the Xbox SDK on its Twitter page and also posted screenshots of the kit. Through the SDK, other developers could end up being able to make homemade games for the console, be it professional developers or even amateurs.

Not only that, but H4LT also stated that they found out information on games that have yet to be released and were able to access their early builds.

While homemade games are not yet possible, the members of H4LT were hopeful that the leak will allow people to come up with such knowledge which was one of many news outlets contacted by the group.

During an interview with The Tech Game via Twitter, the group stated that leaked the kit because "if something is shared then progress is achieved." They also stated that "Share it with the community = creativity and research. Shared is how it should be," and are hopeful that the SDK leak will lead to possible "homebrew applications" in the future.

H4LT also stated that they were able to access more software which they plan to leak in the future, but are keeping mum just in case.

It is said that the hack was due to Microsoft's cloud being compromised. The cloud was originally used for developers to store the early versions of upcoming games, all of which allegedly accessed by H4LT.

It remains to be seen what other information the group H4LT has in its hands, but for now Microsoft has to figure out how to strengthen its security and hopefully prevent more leaks in the future.
