Xbox One vs PS4: Microsoft Announces 1 Million Day One Units Sold, Matching Sony's Sales
Microsoft announced that the Xbox One sold over one million consoles globally in its first 24 hours following its launch, matching the PlayStation 4's first day totals.
"We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world," said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing and strategy at Xbox, in a released statement. "Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team. We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season."
Xbox One was released in North America, Australia, and parts of South America and Europe. The console is sold out in most places Microsoft said as they work to refill stocks.
However, PlayStation 4's first day totals are a bit more impressive because the console only launched in the U.S. and in Canada, a significantly smaller market.
"PS4 has sold through over 1 million units with the 24 hours of the launch in North America!!! :D," Sony President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida announced on Twitter.
With the PS4 and Xbox One both out now, gamers have been clamoring to find the consoles anywhere they can, and plenty more are still waiting for their pre-orders. According to a statement from GameStop, over 2.3 million people are still waiting to receive their ordered consoles.
"We still have over 2.3 million customers on the First to Know List, which indicates continued demand for months to come," GameStop President Tony Bartel said to Bloomberg.
The PS4 launched with a number of exclusives titles including: Killzone: Shadow Fall, DC Universe Online, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Warframe, War Thunder, Contrast, Blacklight:Retribution, Escape-Plan, Flow, Flower, Pinball Arcade, Putty Squad, Resogun, SoundShapes, Switch Galaxy Ultra , DC Universe Online, Skylanders SWAP Force, Super Motherload, Tiny Brains, and Warframe.
Xbox One's launch day exclusives were: Dead Rising 3, The Fighter Within, Crimson Dragon, Forza Motorsport 5, Killer Instinct, LocoCycle, Powerstar Golf, Ryse: Son of Rome, Zoo Tycoon, and Zumba Fitness World Party.
The PS4 is $399 and was released on the 15th while the Xbox One was released on the 22nd for $499.
