Xbox One X News: Microsoft Explains How Games Can Still Run on 1080p Resolution TVs
Microsoft recently explained why Xbox One X will run better on 1080p TVs.
While most of the focus of the new Xbox One X is on 4K and high-dynamic range (HDR) gaming, thousands of Xbox players still have not upgraded to a 4K TV. Although the 4K feature is already expected from the console, Microsoft further explained why existing games will run better on Xbox One X without having a 4K TV.
Microsoft has been using supersampling to make sure games retain their superb quality while on a 1080p TV. Through supersampling, 4K image quality is scaled down to a 1080p screen. This helps users have improved image quality, faster framerates and better texture.
Additionally, Microsoft assured players that some older titles should still run better even if they are not Xbox One X Enhanced. Fans can also expect improved framerates, texture quality and resolutions, depending on how the game was developed.
"We care a lot about compatibility, we have a huge effort around compatibility, and that's not just backwards compatibility," Microsoft's Albert Penello said in an interview, referring to how Microsoft will tackle the usual console generational upgrades.
He added, "I don't know what the future holds, but I do know that we care a lot about compatibility and in this day and age people have shifted to caring more about their community and their apps, than caring about the piece of hardware that they're on, and we have just moved with that."
In the United States, Xbox One X consoles will begin at $499. UK and European versions will be set at €499 and £449, respectively. All consoles are slated to come out later this year, with a release date set for November 17. The chances are Microsoft will open another wave of preorders soon before the new console officially hits the market.
