Xbox Original Games Won't Have Achievements On Xbox One
Microsoft has made clear that the original Xbox games included in the backward compatibility program will not come with achievements.
In a blog, the company has explained that achievements would not be part of the game's enhancements for the Xbox One. This is reportedly because this functionality was not originally available for the classics. The announcement came alongside the news that players will be able to play three generations of games on one console starting on Oct. 24. This means that they can play classics like "Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge" and "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic," among others, across the Xbox One family of devices.
According to Microsoft, it is all about compatibility. They reportedly want the Xbox One to be that console designed to accommodate the "best" games of the past, present, and future. Adding original Xbox games to the Backward Compatible library is only the start. When Xbox One X eventually launches this November, gamers will get to experience playing Xbox 360 games at a higher resolution. Some of these 360 titles are "Halo 3" and "Fallout 3." The same applies to the 13 original Xbox games. There is a drawback, though. Since they are not remastered, some features will not be carried over.
"Since these are original games and not remasters, Xbox Live services such as online multiplayer that were available on the original Xbox will not be available. However, offline multiplayer scenarios such as co-op and system-link are supported as they were originally. There will also be no Achievements for Original Xbox games because this functionality was also not originally available," Microsoft explained.
Videogamer reports, though, that the original Xbox games do support system link multiplayer and that it works in all the consoles of the Xbox family. Although the online services will not be available, players can still connect an Xbox One to an Xbox 360 to play multiplayer games. This is also applicable to the original Xbox console.
