Xbox Project Scorpio Specs, News: New Leak Sheds Light On Anticipated 6-Teraflop GPU
New information on Xbox's Project Scorpio has been leaked and analyzed. And among other details, the latest leak shed some light on the device's 6-teraflop GPU specification.
According to Digital Foundry, the leak again confirms the highly anticipated 6-teraflop specification of Project Scorpio's graphics processing unit, which hints that a massive GPU compute power awaits those who will get the upcoming console.
It was also reported that Xbox's Project Scorpio is structured with an entirely different random access memory base compared to what is currently inside the Xbox One. The lengthy analysis by Digital Foundry also mentioned the possibility that Project Scorpio could use a Jaguar-based processor instead of AMD's Zen architecture.
On the other hand, some game makers are apparently expecting that Project Scorpio will result to a powerful console as well. Recently, the independent developer of "Ori and the Blind Forest," Thomas Mahler, answered a Project Scorpio-related question via NeoGAF on whether Project Scorpio was a new generation console or just an Xbox One upgrade.
Mahler answered: "Scorpio is a next-gen machine with the added benefit that all your old games will still be compatible. From this point on, similar to PCs, you'll not lose your library when you buy a next-gen system."
However, the game developer also suggests that Microsoft needs to clarify the matter as well.
In the meantime, Xbox chief Phil Spencer recently shared his excitement about Project Scorpio, hinting that the console is coming together.
Last Jan. 24, Spencer shared that it was his first time to play using the Scorpio console, saying: "Great day, Scorpio update w/ team. Played my first games on early Scorpio unit. Games played great, console looked right, proud of the team."
Spencer's tweet prompted one Twitter user to ask how the console compares from when it was first announced in 2013 versus now that it is coming together. Spencer replied: "Actual games running where I can see the fidelity on screen, feel the gameplay. For me that's when it becomes real."
More details on Xbox Project Scorpio are expected to be revealed in the 2017 Electronic Entertainment Expo scheduled for June, months ahead of the anticipated holiday season release of the console.
