'XCOM 2' News: Game Delayed to February 2016
Ahead of its original scheduled release of November 2015, developers of the upcoming science-fiction strategy game "XCOM 2" have announced that the game will be delayed to February 5, 2016. According to a report in IGN, Firaxis announced the delay, citing that they needed more time to "make it the best possible game," and one that is worthy sequel to the first game, "XCOM: The Enemy Within."
Another report in Hexus mentioned that game developer Firaxis, through one of its game designers Jake Solomon, took to the stage at the PAX Prime event last Friday with a presentation on what gamers can expect from the upcoming game. With that, he started the presentation with this statement: "We've played through the game a bunch of times so now we're putting a little extra love on it to make it as good a game as it can be."
During the presentation, it was confirmed that in the new game, the tables have turned on the game's protagonists. This time around, XCOM agents are part of the resistance movement against the aliens who have established a colony on Earth. The timeline of the game is 20 years after the events in the first game.
Being resistance fighters, players can expect a different set of missions here compared to what was expected of them in "The Enemy Within." Combat strategy is very important here since attacks should be planned out carefully with the end goal of overthrowing the alien government.
The video that was shown during the presentation provided a sneak peak at the base that XCOM will be using throughout the game, which will house the group's command center, research center, armory and engineering center. Customization is one of touted features of the game and according to Solomon, customization not only applies to the characters but also to their weapons and the designs of their weapons.
