'Xenoblade Chronicles 2' Direct Details News: Expansion Pass, Day-One Updates, Japanese Audio Announced

Action role-playing video game "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" is coming to the Nintendo Switch console in a few weeks. Now, Nintendo is sharing new details about the game in a new Nintendo Direct presentation.

Featuring a detailed look at the game's cast, Nintendo also gave fans a preview of what they can expect when the game comes out on Dec. 1.

VG24/7 has reported that an expansion pass, day-one updates, and a Japanese audio option for "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" were also announced during today's presentation. When the game is released on the Switch, players will be able to download a free content update, including the Japanese audio and English subtitles.

The "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" expansion pass is currently available for pre-order on the Nintendo eShop.

Moreover, the Nintendo Direct presentation elaborated on the details about the expanded battle system, saying that players of the original game will feel familiar as they traverse through "Xenoblade Chronicles 2."

In the game, the main character is Rex, a Driver. His in-game companion is Pyra, a Blade. For the uninitiated, a Blade is some sort of artificial life form that bonds with Drivers to let them use their abilities and weapons in battle.

Abilities are said to differ for each Blade, which means that selecting different Blades during battles will help players come up with better strategies.

Developed by Monolith Soft, "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" is a sequel to the original "Xenoblade Chronicles," which was released in 2010 for the Wii console. Another game titled "Xenoblade Chronicles X" was also released for Wii U back in 2015.

Meanwhile, players of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will also be treated to a free crossover downloadable content (DLC), according to VideoGamer. The game will have a new side quest that allows players to dress up Link, the protagonist of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," as Rex, the protagonist of "Xenoblade Chronicles 2."
