'Xenoblade Chronicles 2' News: Understanding How Drivers and Blades Work Together

Blades emerge from Core Crystals that Drivers touch

"Xenoblade Chronicles 2" is placing more emphasis on the relationships between its characters, and players need to understand those as well if they want to make it through this game.

To start, players should know that there are two distinct character types with those being Drivers and Blades.

Earlier this year, IGN caught up with Monolith Soft studio head Tetsuya Takahashi. Among the topics discussed during that conversation was the Driver-Blade dynamic.

According to Takahashi, the characters classified as Drivers "are basically humans." Protagonist Rex is a Driver, so it seems like this is the first character type players will be using.

In the game, Drivers can interact with special items known as Core Crystals and they should absolutely do so when they have the chance. After a Driver makes contact with a Core Crystal, it is only then that a Blade will emerge.

Once a Blade is brought to life, this character bestows powers and a weapon to the Driver that has activated it.

Pyra is one of the Blades inside "Xenoblade Chronicles 2," and she has control over the element of fire, as stated in the game's official website.

In the game, Pyra will lend that power of hers to Rex, and together, they will work to defeat the enemies who will stand in their way.

Interestingly enough, it seems that the Driver-Blade links will be represented by lines inside the game. According to a recent report from WCCF Tech, the color and the length of the line may be indicators of just how strong the relationship is between the Driver and the Blade.

Notably, there are also different kinds of Blades present, and they may open up varied gameplay styles for players to use.

More details about "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" are expected to be revealed soon and the game itself is due out for the Nintendo Switch on Dec. 1.
