Xiaomi Mi 5 Release Date Leaked By Online Retailer, May Launch February 20
Another retailer has not been able to keep the release date of Xiaomi's upcoming flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 5, under wraps. According to a report in Android Authority, a Chinese online retailer Gear Best posted the product, its specs and a supposed launch date of February 20 on its website.
According to the product page in the retailer's website, the device will be released in the market one day after the February 20 launch, meaning the phone will be available starting February 21. The report also cited that the factory which is manufacturing the device, Foxconn, has supposedly asked its employees to render additional shifts in order to ensure that there will be enough supply in time for the launch.
However, another Android Authority article gives an update on when the device will be available for consumers. According to the report, it was confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be released a week after the device is launched. If this is true, then people can expect to see the gadget around February 27.
The device is highly-anticipated because of its rumored high-end specs at an affordable price, which is what Xiaomi always promises with its flagship devices. The Gear Best listing also posted the device's specs which include the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 4 GB of RAM under the hood. Its display is reported to be a 5.2-inch screen with 1080 pixel Quad HD resolution. It will be reportedly powered by a non-removable 3,600 mAh battery and equipped with a 16-megapixel rear facing camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
According to the listing, the color variants available for the device are black, white and gold. Earlier rumors however cited that it will also be available in pink.
The Gear Best listing indicated that internal storage will be available in 16GB and 64GB variants only but the Android Authority Jan. 18 report, in the meantime, says the device will have 32GB and 64GB variants.. External storage may not be available because the listing indicated that the device will not have a microSD card. According to the report, there may still be a possibility that Xiaomi will equip the device with multi-purpose dual-SIM card slots which can double as a microSD card slot.
Xiaomi seems to be gearing up for the February launch, as the report also cited a Weibo user post showing a banner supposedly taken inside a Foxconn factory which, when translated, supposedly says: "Guarantee to supply Mi 5, strive to deliver the highest quality."
