Xiaomi Mi 5 Release Date & Specs: To Arrive This December, Features Snapdragon 820 Chipset

Xiaomi fans who have been waiting for the company's next flagship, the Mi 5, are in for a treat as reports say that it's set to be released early next month. According to The Times of India, serial tipster Leaksfly mentioned in a Weibo post that the tech company will launch the Mi 5 smartphone at an event that will take place on Dec. 3.

The handset has been delayed because, according to the tipster, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be equipped with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 820 processor. However, Android Authority reported that the chip is not expected to appear in devices until 2016, which is the probable reason why Xiaomi's successor to the Mi 4 is taking longer than usual to debut. Latest rumors did point out that Qualcomm may finally officially launch the Snapdragon 820 chipset on Nov. 20.

Aside from the latest chipset, International Business Times detailed that the Mi 5 is expected to sport a 5.2 inch QHD (1440 x 2560) display screen. It will come with ClearForce technology from Synaptics and has Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection. The handset is also said to be installed with a whopping 4 GB of RAM with an internal storage of either 16 GB or 64 GB. It will not have a microSD card slot though.

Furthermore, Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a USB Type-C connector and also rumored to have a battery of 3,030 mAh capacity. It is expected to be priced at approximately 1,900 yuan (Rs 21,000 in India).
