Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 Release Date, Specs Rumors: 93 Percent Screen-to-Body Ratio, Curved AMOLED Display Touted for Upcoming Device
The tech community was impressed when Xiaomi introduced the Mi Mix — a 6.4-inch smartphone with a near bezel-less display — last year. Thus, it isn't all that surprising that the Chinese electronics company is already working on its successor. According to the latest reports, the Mi MIX 2 will be even more impressive as it could deliver a truly bezel-less display.
Last month, Xiaomi CEO and founder Lei Jun announced on Weibo that the company was once again working with the world-renowned Philippe Starck for the second-generation Mi Mix. To recall, the French designer had collaborated with Xiaomi to develop the Mi Mix.
In terms of design, Xiaomi will be pushing boundaries as according to reports originating from China, the Mi MIX 2 will have even slimmer bezels with a 93 percent screen-to-body ratio. This is a slight increase from the original iteration's 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 will continue to have a slim black bezel on the bottom of the front panel to house the fingerprint sensor.
Furthermore, Xiaomi is also reportedly planning to use a curved active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display. This type of display technology will not only deliver richer colors but it will also allow the maximization of usable screen real estate.
Similar to the Mi MIX, the second-generation smartphone is said to have a ceramic body with bone-conduction audio technology.
Xiaomi has yet to confirm the upcoming device's technical specifications but it is expected to feature upgraded hardware compared to the Mi MIX. To recall, the original smartphone came with a 2,040 x 1,040-pixel screen resolution, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, either 4 GB or 6 GB of random-access memory (RAM) and a 4,400 mAh battery.
Based on reviews, the Mi MIX's 16-megapixel (MP) rear and 5-MP front cameras were not really that great so Xiaomi could also improve on this aspect for the next-generation device.
The Xiaomi MI MIX 2 is rumored to be released later this year, specifically sometime in October or November. However, since the company has not made an official announcement yet, information regarding the upcoming device should be taken with a grain of salt.
