Xiaomi Mi5 Release Date: Xiaomi to Launch Flagship Phone on Dec. 3?

A new teaser for Xiaomi Mi5 has sparked online rumors that the new flagship phone will be launched on Dec. 3 during an official event of the Chinese smartphone maker.

There were earlier speculations that the Xiaomi Mi5 would be launched on Nov. 11 because of a teaser that circulated on the Chinese social network Weibo. In the teaser, a mystery device was seen bearing the caption "Mi Dual 11," according to Realty Today.

The teaser spurred speculations that Xiaomi will launch two smartphones, specifically the Xiaomi Mi5 and Xiaomi Note 2 (pro). Chinese publication Anzhuo said Xiaomi may be gearing up for an event on Dec. 3, in which the company is expected to launch the Mi5, but the phone may not be officially released until 2016.

Other reports say Xiaomi will release a base model and a Pro variant of the Mi Note 2. The current flagship phablets boasts of a 5.7-inch screen, 4 GB of RAM, and 16-megapixel rear camera. The device runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip and the MIUI 7 Android-based OS, and is powered by a 3,500 mAh battery.

Xiaomi has reportedly been postponing the release of the Mi5 because it is waiting for the latest Snapdragon 820 processor to be released. The new chipset is expected to be announced by Qualcomm later in November, the report adds.

So far, none of the rumors about the Dec. 3 release date of the Xiaomi Mi5 has been confirmed. More details are expected to surface as the reported company event draws near.
