Xiaomi Mi5 Specs, Rumors, Release Date: Upcoming Flagship Tipped to Boast QHD Display, Snapdragon 820?

The "Apple of China" continues to dominate in its home market, as it recently announced retaining the top spot for smartphone sales against Samsung and other hometown rivals like Huawei and Lenovo.

While Xiaomi's Mi4, Mi Note, and Mi Note Pro are still not available to most markets outside China, it seems the phone maker may already be preparing the Mi5.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Xiaomi Mi5 will succeed the Mi4 which was announced at around August last year. The device will reportedly get a bigger 5.5-inch display, up from the 5.2-inch screen of the previous model. In the report, the phone maker could also include a QHD or 2K (2560 x 1440) resolution screen for its upcoming flagship.

In addition, the Mi5 is also rumored to boast a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, which would make it one of the top smartphones of the year. Considering that the Mi Note Pro was among the first devices to sport the Snapdragon 810, that means Qualcomm and Xiaomi could do the same thing for the Mi5.

Meanwhile, other specs such as an alleged 16MP primary camera with OIS, and 8MP selfie shooter are still unconfirmed. There are also rumors pointing to "ultrasound" sensors which reportedly last longer and are more durable than optic sensors in fingerprint sensors.

Like the previous models, the Xiaomi Mi5 will come in aluminium, though rumors expect an even thinner design.
