Xiaomi Redmi 3 Unveiled: $100 Phone Comes With 4,100 MAh Battery
Chinese device manufacturer Xiaomi has pushed the envelope yet again when it comes to budget smartphones. This time, Xiaomi has unveiled its latest device, the Redmi 3, which is priced a little over $100 but comes with specs that are not normally found on budget devices. According to an Ars Technica report, the new phone will be powered a huge 4,100 mAh battery.
According to the report, the new phone also has a new look and design. The company decided to ditch the plastic material that the Redmi Note 2 was made of, in exchange for an all-metal build. Most observers say that the phone now looks more like an iPhone because of its metal design. The device also comes in three color variants – gold, silver and gray metal.
This upgrade in the material used for their devices was not surprising, according to the report, because the Redmi Note 3 had already received a similar upgrade when it was released in December 2015.
The biggest upgrade that the Redmi 3 has received compared to its predecessor is in the battery department. The Redmi 3 is touted to have a 4,100 mAh battery which is said to improve talktime by 80%, as claimed by Xiaomi. The Redmi 2 only had a 2,200 mAh battery.
Under the hood, the device will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. Internal storage will be at 16 GB, with expandable storage support up to 128 GB via a microSD card. The phone also has dual-SIM support, but one of the slots also doubles as the microSD card slot, which means that the user will have to choose between using two SIM cards or using one SIM card in order to use extra storage.
The device is only being released in its home market, China, where it will sell for 699 Yuan or about $105. The company has not indicated if it plans to release it elsewhere.
