Xiaomi Redmi 5 Specs and Images News: TENNA-Certified Phone Codenamed 'MAE136' Could be the Redmi 5
Xiaomi may be gearing up to launch multiple variants of their existing smartphone lines this year, but expectations are currently focused on the Xiaomi Redmi 5.
A recent article on Xiaomi Today reported that a smartphone, which suspiciously looked like it could be part of the Redmi series, had just passed the TENNA certification in China under the codename "MAE136." Speculations that this could be the rumored Xiaomi Redmi 5 were inspired by the device's dimensions and general appearance.
The listing also revealed a few other key specifications and features of the supposed Xiaomi Redmi 5. The leaked TENNA document described the phone to have a metal body and a fingerprint scanner at the back. The device also looked curiously like the previously released Redmi 3s Prime, except for the bold antenna line that could be seen at the top and bottom of the Xiaomi Redmi 5's rear panel.

The smartphone is also expected to feature a 5-inch display with dimensions of 139×69×8.6 mm. Power will come from a 4,000 mAh battery and the device will also boast of dual-SIM capabilities. Aside from this alleged information, nothing else is known about the rumored smartphone at the moment.
However, some fans are arguing that this may well be the Redmi 4X instead of the Redmi 5, since Xiaomi has made a reputation of launching several variants of a previous device before moving up to its successor.
Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a while longer for Xiaomi to make an announcement regarding its upcoming devices since the company has reportedly decided to sign out from this year's Mobile World Congress happening from Feb. 27-March 2 in Barcelona, Spain. A reason has yet to be given for their impending absence.
An exact release date is also hard to come by and fans will have to rely on official updates from the company itself regarding the Xiaomi Redmi 5.
