Xiaomi Unveils Two New Big-Screen Handsets, Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime
As if challenging the recent releases of other big smartphone companies like Samsung and Motorola, the Beijing-based electronics company Xiaomi recently unveiled not just one but two new big-screen handsets, the Redmi Note 2 and the Redmi Note 2 Prime.
Xiaomi's handsets are true to the company's tagline: "killer specs, cheaper price." According to a Tech Times report, both smartphones boast of high-end specifications but come with very affordable price tags, making them very attractive to smartphone users who want powerful phones for a fraction of the price.
The Redmi Note 2, for example, is already 4G capable with dual-SIM capacity. Its display is full HD with 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution. Under the hood, it has a 2.0 GHz MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core processor, running on 2 GB of RAM and has 16B onboard storage. Its main camera is a 13 megapixel one, while the secondary camera is at 5 megapixel. Its battery has 3,060 mAh capacity and it also has an infrared blaster that can connect to other devices such as a TV or a multimedia player.
The Redmi Note 2 Prime has similar specs with the Redmi Note 2, except for its higher onboard memory of 32 GB and its more powerful processor, which runs at 2.2 GHz. Both devices have a large 5.5-inch screen.
What is surprising about both phones are its prices. The Redmi Note 2 is said to be selling for $125 while the Redmi Note 2 Prime will be selling at $160. The available colors for both devices are mostly pastel colors, black or white. They will be available starting August 16 in China, much earlier than August 21 shipping date of Samsung. Both devices will come pre-installed with the latest MIUI 7, which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The Redmi Note 2 is the second-generation model of the Redmi Note, which made waves when it was first released in 2014. The Note 2, however, is much lighter than its predecessor.
