YotaPhone 2 Specs, Release Date: New Dual-Display Smartphone Dead-On-Arrival In China?
Last year, Chinese manufacturer Yota introduced the world to a smartphone that has not one, but two displays. The YotaPhone was a promising hit for the Asian market, particularly due to its unique feature of a e-paper display which is perfect for reading e-books, etc.
Unfortunately, the YotaPhone had a very steep price tag.
According to a recent report from GSM Arena, the Chinese brand has just launched the next-generation YotaPhone in its home market. Aptly dubbed as the YotaPhone 2, it boasts the same quality features of its predecessor, including the e-paper secondary display at the back, and upgraded specs.
In the report, the YotaPhone 2 packs a 5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, 2GB of RAM, and quad-core CPU clocked at 2.5GHz.
While the device does not offer any microSD card slots, the YotaPhone 2 does have a 32GB built-in memory which should be enough storage for most people.
Rounding up the specs for the device is an 8MP primary camera, 2.1MP front shooter, and a 2,500mAh battery.
While all of these specs are decent, it is the price tag of the YotaPhone 2 that places it in the danger list of unnoticed phones. In the report, the device is priced at CNY 4,888, or a hefty $788.
So while Yota has the vision to make it to China's elite phone makers, its pricing strategies are just not competitive enough for its target market.
