'Young Sheldon' Season 1 to Start Airing on CBS in November
"Young Sheldon" is officially starting its first season, and that means more backstory for "Big Bang Theory" fans will be given by November. The spin-off show had a series pilot on Monday, Sep. 25, which went on to become the most-watched comedy premiere on TV since 2011.
CBS could have been just testing the waters with their "Young Sheldon" premiere just a little over a week ago, but the pilot episode made such a splash that the network is pushing on ahead to release the first season on Thursday, Nov. 2.
The response was immense, as CBS noted in their announcement last Wednesday, Sep.27. The premiere episode of "Young Sheldon" broke records as it went on to set a record for the number of viewers for a comedy debut episode in six years.
CBS has now commissioned more episodes of the comedy-drama in time for November, still in its 8:30 p.m. time slot on Thursdays, right after the main "Big Bang Theory" show.
The network has picked up the show for a full season, which extends the debut run of "Young Sheldon" from 13 episodes to a total of 22, giving the series an additional nine installments. The show is also the first to get the full-season nod from CBS this year, as Deadline notes.
Newcomer Iain Armitage plays young Sheldon Cooper, along with Zoe Perry as his mother, Mary. Lance Barber plays young Sheldon's father after a stint playing as bully Jimmy Speckerman on the main "The Big Bang Theory" series, as the Huffington Post spotted.
Meemaw (Annie Potts,) twin sister Missy (Raegan Revord) and older brother George Jr. (Montana Jordan) also make their return next month.
The video below shows the drama series "Young Sheldon," featuring a touching moment between the younger Cooper and his dad, complete with voice overs from the older Sheldon. "Young Sheldon" returns for its debut season on Nov. 2 at 8:30 p.m. on CBS, right after "The Big Bang Theory."
