'Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS' Release Date News: Anime to Debut in May
Fans of the Japanese manga and anime series "Yu-Gi-Oh!" will have to wait a little longer to see the newest addition to the franchise. Reports indicate that instead of April, TV Tokyo is planning to release "Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS" a month later.
According to Comicbook, the upcoming anime series will make its debut in May. However, no explanation has been given regarding the delay. TV Tokyo also announced that in April, fans can expect to see a special titled "Yu-Gi-Oh! Labo" which will be used to promote the show.
Very little has been revealed about the new anime. Unlike other Japanese animes that will be unveiled in the next few months, no trailers have been released for "Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS."
So far, fans know that the anime will feature two new duelists named Gō Onizuka and Aoi Zaizen. This was revealed via a simple story teaser.
"Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS" also has a new protagonist. Yūsaku Fujiki is said to be accomplished in combat but lacks social skills. He will travel the world to fight in virtual reality arenas and bring Duel Monsters to life. Essentially a wallflower, Fujiki reportedly transforms, physically and mentally, when he starts dueling.
Fujiki's flagship Duel Monster is called Decode Talker, a robotic creature wielding an enormous sword. It reportedly bears similarities to Yugi's Dark Magician.
The anime is also said to introduce a new style of dueling. According to iDigital Times, a technique for summoning Duel Monsters will revealed during the premiere. Some rules in the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game will also undergo changes, especially with regards to link summoning. "Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS" is also said to feature cyber monsters.
Although the franchise has been keeping most of the spoilers for "Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS" under wraps, the fans can expect that more details will be revealed in the following months. Since the anime is set for a May debut, trailers and clips will likely be released weeks before the scheduled premiere.
