Yu Yunique 4G smartphone released in India, specs detailed

While leading brands like Samsung and Apple are competing in releasing affluent smartphones, a less known brand is targeting those who are looking for handsets that perfectly suits their budget. Yu Televentures, Micromax's sub-brand, just recently released its fourth budget 4G smartphone dubbed as Yu Yunique. For a price of Rs 4,999, the phone will be exclusively available on Snapdeal via flash sale starting September 15, according to The Times of India.

Yunique is actually the first 4G smartphone with an HD display that is being sold at an affordable price. Its specifications include a 4.7-inch HD (1280 x 720) IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection against minor scratches. It is also powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor with 1GB RAM and an 8GB internal storage along with a microSD slot expandable up to 32GB.

The Yu Yunique smartphone lives up to its name as it really is unique to the Yu lineup. According to NDTV Gadgets, the said handset runs the Android 5.1 Lollipop software and not the Cyanogen OS out-of-the-box like the previous models Yureka Plus and Yuphoria. But the source noted that users can opt to flash Cyanogen OS 2.1 onto the device.

In terms of the design, Yu has somewhat copied the design profile of Yuphoria. At first look, the Yunique appears like a miniature of its predecessor. It has the same design profile and the Yuphoria's metallic sides. And for some reason, the power button is located between the volume buttons on the right, an unusual placement that will most likely make it confusing for users to find it.

The dual-sim handset will sport an 8MP primary camera along with a 2MP front-facing camera. Moreover, the smartphone will include Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot, GPS, A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, FM radio, and Micro-USB v2.0 and will come with a non-removable 2000mAh Li-Po battery.

As reported by IBN Live, Yu Televentures founder Rahul Sharma said that they are confident that Yunique will sell about half a million units before Diwali. They're also looking into bringing the smartphone to other countries, perhaps by next year.
