ZenFone 3 Rumors: Rumored Zenfone 3 Spotted on TENAA
A new phone model was recently spotted on the website of Chinese telecommunications equipment certification center TENAA and reports are saying this may be the next model of the ASUS Zenfone, the Zenfone 3. This is despite the fact that the Taiwanese company only launched its latest ZenFone 2 early this year.
According to a report in Tech Times, the new smartphone will be sporting a fingerprint scanner, a first for Asus phones. It also speculates that the new phone may use Qualcomm Snapdragon 15 chips instead of the usual Intel chips. The phone is rumored to have the model number Asus Z00EDB, as spotted on the TENAA website, leading the report to say that this model may be the ZenFone 3 or an upgraded model of the ZenFone 2.
Among its rumored specifications is its smaller screen size. The ZenFone 2 has a 5.5-inch screen and this new phone only has a 5-inch display with 1280 x 720 pixels. It is supposed to measure 143.7 x 71.5 x 10.66 millimeters or 5.66 x 2.81 x 0.42 inches. It is said to weigh around 145 grams, definitely lighter than ZenFone 2's 155 grams. This model will offer seven color variants, from silver, gold, purple, blue, red, white and black.
Under the hood, it is said to feature a 1.2 GHz quad-core 64-bit processor, a Mali GPU, LPDDR3 2GB of RAM with internal storage of 16 GB only, which is naturally expandable to 32 GB via a microSD card slot. Its display will be protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It will not have a 13 MP rear camera like one variant of the ZenFone 2. Its cameras are a 8MP rear-facing camera with low-light settings, HDR and a pair of LED flash lights and a 5MP front-facing camera. Connectivity options will be Bluetooth, 3G and Wi-Fi -- no indication that an LTE version will come out.
Like its predecessor, it will be dual-SIM capable and instead of a plastic build, will have a metal build.
Given its lower camera specs and slower processor, the phone is expected to have a lower price point than the ZenFone 2. Pricing and availability however are not yet known.
