'Zootopia' Maintains Top Spot in Box Office, Surpasses 'Allegiant'

Disney's animated film "Zootopia" continues to soar high as it remains in its number one spot in the box office. According to Variey, the movie, which was released on Feb. 17, remained in the third place for three weeks. But on the fourth week, it made its way to the top trampling over other films released. "Zootopia" is said to have earned $2.52 million already between Friday and Sunday. The total has reached to $18.7 million from 2.81 million admissions after five weekends.

New York Times also noted that the film took in an estimated $38 million. The total revealed by comScore has reached already to $201.8 million in three-week domestic. The audience's response to the film is so warm that it is almost in the same level with Disney's hit 2014 movie, "Big Hero 6." Digital Trends reported that "Zootopia" is estimated to be just $21 million away from the earnings of the movie that popularized Baymax. And if the film continues to raise up to more than $200 million, it will be able to overtake the studio's highest-grossing film of all time, "Frozen."

The big success of "Zootopia" has also placed the third sequel of the "Divergent" series, "Allegiant" in second place at the box office. Collider divulged that the film based on author Veronica Roth's young adult novel took Friday's spot but it wasn't able to maintain it. Its total earning is estimated at $29.1 million from 3,740 locations in North American theaters.

It also found out that it is 44 percent less than initial results for the 2015 installment in the series. While "Allegiant" holds second place, the third place goes to faith-based movie "Miracles From Heaven," which is starred by Jennifer Garner. It has pulled in $15 million at the box office.

For those who have not watched "Zootopia" yet, the film follows the adventure of rabbit Judy Hopps (Ginner Goodwin) and fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). Together they work on a case to solve a crime that took place in the Zootopia animal kingdom.
