Abortion activists' ‘summer of rage' targets churches, pro-life pregnancy centers: list

Alpha Pregnancy Care Center: Schenectady, New York

In an Aug. 22 Facebook post, Alpha Pregnancy Care Center of Albany, New York shared a picture of pro-abortion graffiti spray-painted on the exterior walls of its location in Schenectady, New York. The graffiti included the phrases “fake clinic,” “stop forced birth” and “Jane’s Revenge.”

The inclusion of the term Jane’s Revenge as part of the graffiti suggests that the group of pro-abortion activists bearing the same name may be responsible for the attack. Jane’s Revenge has claimed responsibility for multiple acts of vandalism against pro-life pregnancy centers and churches and declared “open season” on such organizations after they failed to heed the pro-abortion organization’s call to disband within 30 days. However, Jane’s Revenge did not explicitly take responsibility for the vandalism in Schenectady.

The pro-life pregnancy center elaborated on the vandalism in a statement posted to its website. The statement indicated that the vandalism took place on the weekend of Aug. 20-21 or during the early morning hours of Aug. 22.

Bethlehem House: Easthampton, Massachusetts

The anarchist website Abolition Media posted a communique from Jane’s Revenge on Aug. 18, taking responsibility for the vandalism near Bethlehem House, a pro-life pregnancy center in Easthampton, Massachusetts. The Abolition Media Twitter account shared photographs of the defacement the pro-life pregnancy center found itself subject to, including benches near the facility spray-painted with the words “Janes” and “Revenge” as well as multiple locations emblazoned with the symbol for the anarchist movement.

Additional photographs shared on the anarchist blog showed the phrase “If abortions aren’t safe, neither are you” spray-painted on the ground in front of the church adjacent to the facility. Abolition Media noted that the vandalism took place in “the early morning” hours of Aug. 18.

Victory Bible Church: Lawrence, Kansas

Stephen Koranda of Kansas News Service reported on Twitter on Aug. 1 that Victory Bible Church in Lawrence, Kansas was “vandalized overnight with messages opposing the constitutional amendment on abortion.” The vandalism of the church occurred shortly before Kansas voters weighed in on the “Value Them Both” Amendment, which would have amended the Kansas constitution to clarify that it does not contain the right to abortion. Kansans ultimately rejected the ballot measure in an Aug. 2 vote, leaving existing abortion law in place.

Pictures of vandalism at Victory Bible Church shared by Koranda show the church’s sign urging Kansans to “vote yes” on the “Value Them Both” Amendment defaced with red paint. Graffiti emblazoned on the exterior walls of the church consisted of counter-messaging calling on voters to “vote no” and “protect life.”

Woman’s New Life Clinic: Baton Rouge, Louisiana

A July 12 Facebook post from New Orleans-based Fox affiliate WVUE-TV shows the Woman’s New Life Clinic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, defaced with graffiti. One of the windows of the facility was sprayed with red paint proclaiming “Abortion is a right” while the door had graffiti reading “Fake Clinic” painted on it. One of the pillars on the front porch had “Jane’s” spray-painted on it while another had been vandalized with the word “Revenge.”

The graffiti suggests that activists affiliated with the pro-abortion group Jane’s Revenge are responsible for the attack. An additional social media post from New Orleans-based local news outlet WAFB-TV shows the words “Not Safe” and “Jane’s Revenge” spray-painted on a sign on the side of the facility.

Clearway Clinic and Problem Pregnancy: Worcester, Massachusetts

Clearway Clinic, a pro-life pregnancy center in Worcester, Massachusetts, reported on its blog that it was vandalized at around 2:30 a.m. on July 7. The damage included “smashed glass for two doors and three windows” and the words “Jane’s Revenge” spray-painted on the sidewalk in front of the facility.

Jane’s Revenge took credit for the vandalism at Clearway Clinic and Problem Pregnancy, another pregnancy center in Worcester, in a July 8 blog post on Abolition Media.

The pro-abortion group claimed the employees of the “fake clinics” “lie to vulnerable pregnant people about abortion to confuse them and convince them not to seek abortions.” They bragged that employees of the clinic “discovered this morning that their buildings had been redecorated with paint and broken glass.”

Birthright St. Paul: St. Paul, Minnesota

Birthright St. Paul, a pro-life pregnancy center in St. Paul, Minnesota, announced on Facebook July 6 that it had been vandalized that day.

The Facebook post documented graffiti on the exterior of the facility that read “Abort America” and “Blood on your hands.”

While the phrase “Jane’s Revenge” was also spray-painted on the building, the group did not claim credit for the vandalism on Abolition Media as it normally does when it carries out an attack.

A subsequent Facebook post showed additional vandalism at the facility, which included the spray painting of statements declaring “If abortions aren’t safe, neither are you” and “Jesus loves abortion” on the side of the building.

The pregnancy center asked for donations to cover the cost of “the professional clean-up efforts of Birthright St. Paul’s siding, brick, windows, door and signage due to vandals’ destruction.”

Heartbeat of Miami Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic: Hialeah, Florida

Heartbeat of Miami Pregnancy Help Medical Clinics stated on Facebook July 3 that “pro-abortion terrorists” caused thousands of dollars’ worth of damage at the pregnancy center in Hialeah. The group cited damage to the building and security system.

Images of the vandalism accompanying the post revealed a symbol for the anarchist movement painted on a sign advertising the clinic’s services and the defacement of the building with additional graffiti promoting pro-abortion messages.

One patch of graffiti declared “If abortions aren’t safe [then] neither are you” while another vowed that “our rage will not stop.” The phrase “Jane’s Revenge” was spray-painted on the side of the building, along with a question asking “Pro-life? What about [the] death penalty for the accused?”

Holy Family Catholic Church: Hillsborough, North Carolina

Holy Family Catholic Church in Hillsborough, North Carolina, shared on July 3 that the church building had been vandalized that night. In a Facebook post, the church expressed gratitude for “the men of our parish who helped to clean up.”

“At approximately 12:15 am our church received some spray paint, and after Spanish Mass, a big dose of Love,” the post reads.

The post did not elaborate on the content of the graffiti and only included images of the spray paint after it was partially removed.

A Twitter post from a parishioner at Holy Family documented what he said greeted him and other parishioners upon arriving at the church. The words “I [heart] abortion” were spray-painted in the parking lot. Most of the vandalism appears to have targeted the exterior of the property.

Hope Clinic for Women: Nashville, Tennessee

A local news report compiled by WSMV-TV detailed an attempted arson at Hope Clinic for Women, a pro-life pregnancy center in Nashville, Tennessee. The report, which aired June 30, noted that Metro Nashville Police Department officers responded to a burglar alarm that went off at 1:30 that morning.

“Police found a front window smashed and there was an unlit Molotov cocktail inside,” the WSMV anchor said. “The side of the building was also spray-painted with the words ‘Jane’s Revenge.’”

Life Choice Pregnancy Center: Winter Haven, Florida

Life Choice Pregnancy Center in Winter Haven, Florida, posted a statement on Facebook on June 26, accompanied by pictures of extensive vandalism at the facility. The sign advertising the pregnancy center was vandalized with a symbol for the anarchist movement.

Multiple symbols for the anarchist movement were spray-painted on the exterior wall of the building, along with the phrases “Jane was here” and “Jane’s Revenge.” Additional graffiti on the wall read “Abortion 4 All” and included declarations insisting that “We are everywhere” and “Your time is up.”

Tree of Life Pregnancy Center: Paso Robles, California

A local news report compiled by KSBY-TV in San Luis Obispo, California, included video footage of vandalism at the Tree of Life Pregnancy Center, a pro-life pregnancy center in Paso Robles, California. One of the windows at the facility was defaced with the anarchist movement symbol while the sign advertising the business in another window had an “X” drawn through it.

Additionally, the front door of the business had the letters “JR” painted on it, possibly signifying that the pro-abortion group Jane’s Revenge may be responsible for the vandalism. The Paso Robles Police Department told the news outlet that the vandalism occurred between the evening of June 24, hours after the publication of the Dobbs decision, and the morning of June 26.

Police also reported that the Tree of Life Pregnancy Center had previously received a threat from Jane’s Revenge. In addition to the graffiti attack, the pregnancy center also suffered broken windows.

St. John Neumann Catholic Church: Reston, Virginia

St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Reston, Virginia, was the first church vandalized by pro-abortion activists following the Dobbs ruling. The Fairfax County Police Department released a statement on June 26:

“Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded at 6:45 Sunday morning to a call for smoldering mulch at the St. John Neumann Catholic Community Church. ... Fire and Rescue personnel detected an accelerant was likely used in the fire and observed graffiti spray-painted on a sign at the entrance of the church. Officers found three additional locations on the back of the building damaged by graffiti. The remarks spray painted were related to the recent Supreme Court Roe v. Wade ruling.”

Images of the vandalism, shared on social media by the Washington, D.C.-area Fox News affiliate Fox 5 DC, showed graffiti reading, “This won’t stop” spray-painted on the bottom of the church’s roadside sign. The church building was also defaced with graffiti proclaiming “Separation of Church & State” and an obscene message that church staff have since washed off.

Informed Choices Medical Clinic: Iowa City, Iowa*

Images circulated on social media on the weekend following the release of the Dobbs decision reveal the vandalism of a sign advertising Informed Choices Medical Clinic in Iowa City, Iowa. The Twitter user who shared the images of the sign defaced with the pro-abortion slogan “My Body My Choice” and profane messages characterized Informed Choices Medical Clinic as a “Fake Clinic,” a pejorative used by pro-abortion activists to deride pro-life pregnancy centers.

However, a visit to the Informed Choices Medical Clinic website shows that the business provides ultrasound exams to “determine exactly how far along” a woman’s pregnancy is, thereby helping her to know “which type of abortion [she] would be eligible for.”

Insisting that its goal is to help women “get all the answers [they] need to make the choice that’s right for” them, the clinic lists the types of abortions available at certain stages of pregnancy in addition to outlining risks associated with the procedures and statistics about fetal development.

Mother & Child Education Center: Portland, Oregon*

Zane Sparling, a reporter for the Oregonian, shared video footage of vandalism at the Mother & Child Education Center in Portland, Oregon in the early morning hours of June 26. The video footage revealed that the attack, one of several to take place in Portland on the weekend following the Dobbs decision, left a sign advertising the center vandalized with a profane message directed at the Supreme Court and a symbol for the anarchist movement.

In a comment responding to a Facebook post, the Mother & Child Education Center indicated that there is “lots of broken glass” at the facility following the vandalism. Maura White, the director of the Mother & Child Education Center, has rejected the characterization of her business as a pro-life pregnancy center.

“We’re not anything like that,” she told Sparling. “I’m a pro-choice, liberal Catholic Democrat.”

Life Choices: Longmont, Colorado

Life Choices, a pro-life pregnancy center in Longmont, Colorado, was set on fire in the early morning hours of June 25. In a public Facebook post, the city said: “Longmont Public Safety responded this morning, Saturday, June 25th, at 3:17 a.m., to a reported fire at Life Choices, 20 Mountain View Avenue in Longmont. The building sustained fire and heavy smoke damage. At the arrival of police and fire staff, the front of the property had been vandalized with black paint.”

Noting that “this fire is being investigated as arson,” the city of Longmont Department of Public Safety posted pictures of the damage sustained by the pro-life pregnancy center.

Graffiti painted on the side of the building declared, “If abortions aren’t safe neither are you” and included the symbol for the anarchist movement. The sidewalk in front of the facility was also defaced with the phrase “Bans off our bodies” and another symbol for the anarchist movement was spray-painted on the exterior wall of the building directly above the sidewalk.

Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center: Lynchburg, Virginia

Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center in Lynchburg, Virginia, became the first pro-life pregnancy center to find itself subject to vandalism following the Dobbs decision. The Lynchburg Police Department reported on Facebook on June 25 that “it was investigating property damage and vandalism that occurred overnight at the Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center.” The department stated that “upon arrival, officers found that the building had been spray-painted with graffiti, and multiple windows had been broken out.”

Images of the vandalism show the words “Jane’s Revenge” spray-painted on the ground in front of the facility. The pro-abortion group took credit for the attack in a blog post published on Abolition Media Monday.

A still photograph of security camera footage outside the Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center shows “four masked individuals” stationed outside the facility at 1:21 a.m. on June 25. The property was defaced with additional pro-abortion commentary, including the phrase “Vote blue LOL” spray-painted onto the side of the building and “If Abortion Ain’t Safe You Ain’t Safe” written in red paint on the ground in front of the pro-life pregnancy center.
