Easter of ’33
Based on “Summer of ‘69” by Bryan Adams
I got my first real Savior
Standin up on Calvary
Watched Him as the blood ran red
Was the Easter of ‘33
When me and the guys had dinner
And headed to Gethsemane
Judas quit, Peter rejected.
Spirit willing, but the flesh was weak
Oh, when I look back now
That weekend seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I’d always wanna be there
Easter was the best day of my life.
Ain’t no use in complaining
When you’ve got a job to do.
He just took the cross on His shoulders
And carried me and you, yeah
At the dying of our Lord
He said it wouldn’t last forever
Oh, and then He rose again
And when I looked behind that boulder
That was the best day of my life.
We didn’t believe our eyes
We were scared and desperate
We needed to see a sign
But then He broke the bread in Emmaus
Emmaus!
And now the times are changing
Now we’re not afraid to boast
Doubting Thomas, even Saint Peter
Were made courageous by the Holy Ghost
Standing up on Cavalry
I thought the Cross would last forever
But on the day my Savior rose
I knew that I’d be His forever
Easter was the best day of my life.
